The look and taste of your food determine your overall health. In our day to day life, we come across a wide variety of colorful food items. The colorful food not only makes your looks appealing but makes your appearance delightful. We know that fruits and vegetables are rich in minerals, vitamins and fiber along with the natural compound of phytonutrients which give fruits and vegetables their color. When you start taking food in its natural form, flavor and nutrients combine it forms a complete health food. No doubt all foods contain different types of nutrients, but their color pigments are potent natural color cosmetics which can help your skin to glow. Every day our goal should be to eat two brightly colored fruits and vegetables at lunch and dinner.

Red color food
Take for example, tomato; it gets its red color from lycopene, a powerful antioxidant which is known to offer powerful anti-aging effects. Pink grapefruit and watermelon also contain lycopene. When tomatoes are heated so as to produce a sauce or puree to be used in a pasta sauce, the lycopene becomes more active and offer beneficial effects to our health. Even strawberries, cranberries and raspberries get their red color from anthocyanin antioxidant plant pigments which fight skin inflammation. You can eat berries as raw or add it in a smoothie or cereal, mixed with yogurt.
Green color food
Chlorophyll forms green in vegetables. The green color in food items are rich in vitamins, minerals and contain various disease-fighting plant chemicals. A few plant chemicals help in preventing skin degeneration preserve the youthful appearance of skin. You have to choose darker green food items. Romaine lettuce contains six times the vitamin c and eight times the beta-carotene of iceberg lettuce. Spinach is another food item rich in various minerals.
Blue and purple color food items
The blue pigment which is created by anthocyanin ranges from the purple or deep blue in food items like black grapes and eggplant. The presence of anthocyanin in grapes is the reason as to why red wine helps in lowering the risk of heart attack. You can add blueberries in jams, salads and smoothies.
Orange color food
The orange food contains alpha-and-beta-carotene which are associated with cancer prevention and general skin health. Sweet potatoes have been found to be a healthy alternative to white potatoes. They may be cooked, mashed or baked according to one’s taste. Mangoes to come into this category they can be eaten raw, in a salad, yogurt etc.
